“I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail,” Evan Rachel Wood, 33, wrote in a post on her Instagram account Monday, adding “I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives.”
Wood continued, “The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” Wood said. “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years.”
Evan Rachel Wood has frequently spoken in recent years about being abused in a relationship, but she did not name a person until her Instagram post. Wood and Manson began dating publicly when she was was 19 and he was 38. Wood said that she was “brainwashed and manipulated into submission” by Manson, adding “I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Evan Rachel Wood identified herself as a sexual assault victim in 2017 during the #MeToo movement, saying at the time, “Being raped once made it easier to be raped again. I instinctually shut down. My body remembered, so it protected me. I disappeared. #metoo.”
Loma Vista Recordings, Marilyn Manson’s record label, released a statement announcing they will “cease to further promote his current album” and has decided not to work with him on any future projects due to the “disturbing allegations.”
It is not clear if Wood will be placing charges against her former fiancé.
